CBS recently revealed the synopsis for the upcoming April 11 episode of the hit show “Supergirl,” and it contained a surprise for the WWE Universe: Former WWE Divas Champion Eve has been cast as the super-powered Maxima.

Featured in “Superman” comics, Maxima began as an alien villainess seeking a suitable companion in the form of The Man of Steel. She eventually became a hero and a member of the Justice League, and her upcoming appearance on “Supergirl” marks her live-action debut. WWE.com caught up with Eve to discuss her role on the show.

WWE.com: How did you get the role of Maxima?

Eve: It came through my representation and it just ended up working out. It was a great match and I was really excited to read about the part. It’s just such a fun family to get into with all the DC Comics TV shows and movies.

WWE.com: Did you have to audition for the role?

Eve: I actually didn’t. I had worked with co-executive producer Larry Teng on El Rey’s “Matador,” and Maxima was a role that they were looking for an actress that fit a certain type and I just fit that type.

WWE.com: What can you tell us about Maxima?

Eve: Anyone who reads the comics knows Maxima comes to Earth in search of a mate among the superhero population — specifically Superman. She’s denied by him and she becomes very angry and bitter. We’ll see how that history plays out in the show — every adaptation is a little bit different, but “Supergirl” does a great job with the source material.

WWE.com: Are you a fan of the show?

Eve: I’ve been really impressed with “Supergirl.” It’s a great show because it’s appeals to DC Comics fans, staying true to the characters in spirit and costumes, and it also appeals to casual fans who enjoy good action, fun storylines and interesting characters. There’s something for everyone.

WWE.com: Are you a comic book fan?

Eve: I am, especially the super-powered women. That’s one reason I really love “Supergirl.” It’s a great show for people to watch with their children — sons and daughters alike. It features strong female characters which is always something to appreciate.

WWE.com: Do you have any other roles in the making that you can talk about?

Eve: I gave my birth to my son about six months ago, so while I don’t have anything really in the works, this is really a chance for me to get back out there and back to work. There’s also a potential chance for Maxima to be a recurring role in upcoming seasons, so that’s really exciting.

Eve’s episode of “Supergirl” airs on Monday April 11 on CBS. You can keep up with Eve on Twitter at @evetorresgracie.

In a perfect world, women wouldn’t need self-defense because men wouldn’t perpetrate these crimes — but the world is far from perfect. The Gracie Women Empowered program is a jiu-jitsu-based women’s self-defense system which addresses the 15 most common threats against women. In addition to leverage-based physical techniques, women are taught to use the “psychology of an assault” to set boundaries, assess intentions and deter attacks before they happen! Share the video and help us inspire women everywhere!

LET’S HELP THE SURVIVOR: If anyone has any contact with the woman who survived this assault, please notify the Gracie Academy (e-mail info@gracieacademy.com). We would like to sponsor her to come to California to receive a full week of personal training with Eve and Rener at Gracie Academy Headquarters.

At 7:30pm on Wednesday, November 25, a woman who was jogging in East River Park near Jackson Avenue when a man accosted and dragged her by the hair into a nearby amphitheater.
Once there, he sexually assaulted her, stole her cell phone and credit cards, and took off on a bicycle. If you have any information about the suspect’s whereabouts, please contact NYPD immediately.

In this special edition Gracie Breakdown, Eve and Rener Gracie discuss the incident, specifically how the hair-grab can be so challenging and debilitating during an assault. They also discuss how, with some principle-driven jiu-jitsu training, a woman can not only minimize the assailants effectiveness, but turn the tables and use the attacker’s own grip to incapacitate him with a joint lock or a chokehold.

In response to this incident, and to help expose as many women as possible to the benefits of learning self-defense, we are hosting a free Gracie Women Empowered seminar at several Certified Training Centers around the world. When Eve got pregnant, she immediately went to YouTube to see if she could find any guidance on safe practices for training jiu-jitsu while pregnant, but there was nothing of the sort. Consequently, Eve and Rener decided to document their pregnant jiu-jitsu journey so that future families had something to reference when their time comes. Be sure to watch the video all the way through to the end for a fun surprise with the newest member of the Gracie Family!
